The Trail Explorer
Episode Two - The Secret Waterfall
I am not able to give you directions to the trailhead for the Secret Waterfall episode. We were allowed to go to this private property in Western North Carolina, and according to the owner's request, I cannot tell you where this area is located.

However, I can tell you that the hike was about four miles in length and rated easy, except for the tricky water crossing and subsequent descent to the falls themselves. Our timing to the falls was almost perfectly coordinated with the changing of fall colors and made for some excellent views.

The picture shows the 65 foot falls and deep crystal clear pool below. If it were a bit warmer, no doubt I would have taken a swim! There are also some lower falls but they are quite a bit smaller.

The Swannanoa Valley Museum organized and sponsored this hike. I am a member and you can be too by calling the museum at 828-669-9566 or going to their site at www.swannanoavalleymuseum.org. Come and join us for many more exciting hikes into the wilds of Western North Carolina. The museum sponsors at least one hike a month.

Be sure to tune into local Charter cable channel 20 in Asheville, NC at 7:30 PM on Wednesday nights for this show which will air until mid November.

Starting in mid November my next episode Exploring The Vertical Rock Trail will air. This show will highlight the Rumbling Bald Mountain, soon to become North Carolina's newest State Park, and Chimney Rock in the Hickory Nut Gorge of North Carolina.

I will be climbing with Jeremiah Haas of Fox Mountain Guides. I will also have interviews with Phil Potter from the Colburn Earth Science Museum in Asheville, NC and with Wendell Begley from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority. Be sure to join in.
